New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai’s (NYEE) Retina Service is the oldest service of its type in New York City, treating thousands of patients a year with retinal disorders from the metropolitan area. This volume and diversity of cases has given our physicians and the clinical staff that supports them a world-class level of experience and expertise.
From the founding of the Retina Service nearly 60 years ago, we have continued to expand our capabilities in a range of conditions, from the retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration we routinely handle, to the microsurgical interventions and restorations of disease and trauma damaged retinas that underscore our specialized skills. In 1984, we launched the first Eye Trauma Service for the metropolitan region and continue today to serve as the major referral center for the most complex injuries to the eye.
In addition, our advanced Retinal Imaging Center features the latest and most sophisticated tools, such as Spectral-Domain and Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomography, Adaptive Optics Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscopy, OCT Angiography, and metabolic imaging, to enable our ophthalmologists to base their treatment and management of patients on the most accurate diagnostic information available. We are also active participants in the latest clinical research, ensuring that our patients have access to the most recently developed therapies.
Always mindful of the retina’s critical role in our connection to the world, our goal has never wavered: To provide our patients with the best services and technology available to care for their eye disorders.
