Support Groups

The Social Work Department at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai (NYEE) offers support groups for select eye, ear, nose, and throat conditions. Members are given a forum to share their stories, ask questions, and learn about useful resources in a comfortable and supportive environment.

Ophthalmology Support Groups

NYEE is pleased to offer the following support groups related to eye conditions.

Macular Degeneration Support Group

During our monthly support group, members can discuss their experiences, share coping strategies, and provide emotional support to each other. NYEE’s doctors and patient care staff provide information about new technologies, research into the condition, and nutrition guidance.

Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month (except July), 2-3pm in the 3rd Floor Conference room at NYEE, 310 East 14th Street.

We are currently recruiting members for two new groups:

  • Uveitis Support Group
  • Ocular Cancer Support Group

If you are interested in these groups, please call Marcie Braverman, LCSW at 212-979-4393.

Otolaryngology Support Groups

NYEE is pleased to offer the following support groups related to conditions of the ears, nose, and throat.

Head and Neck Cancer Support Group

A head and neck cancer diagnosis can prompt a major life change. We provide patients with psychological, emotional, and social support and resources to help them adjust to emotional and practical changes, so they can move forward.

A team of doctors, nurses, psychologists, nutritionists, social workers, and speech pathologists attend the support groups to educate and help patients cope with life’s challenges.

Interpreters are available to attend the group's meetings as needed. Transportation is provided for those patients in need and lunch is served at every meeting. The participation of family members and significant others is encouraged.

Meetings are held on the third Monday of every month, 11am-1pm in the 3rd Floor conference room at NYEE, 310 East 14th Street, New York, NY.

For more information, please contact Henedia (Hennie) Sirilan, RN, MSN at 212-979-4421.
