Pediatric Specialty Care at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai

New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai (NYEE) is an international leader in restoring the gifts of sight and sound to children. Children comprise more than 25 percent of NYEE patients across all specialties. The need for specialized pediatric care continues to rise, as studies prove that early intervention leads to optimal quality of life.

Pediatric Ophthalmology / Orthoptics: New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai (NYEE) Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology, Adult Strabismus and Orthoptics has a long tradition of being at the forefront of care for children with a wide range of eye and vision disorders and for patients of any age with ocular motility problems. The department offers the full spectrum of therapeutic options including surgery, glasses, prisms, eye patches, medications, and exercises.

The Pediatric Ophthalmology department also has extensive experience in treating patients with less common conditions such as congenital or developmental cataracts, congenital or developmental glaucoma, pediatric corneal problems, other congenital anomalies of the eyes, developmental anomalies of the visual system, retinopathy of prematurity, ocular infections, tumors and trauma.

Pediatric Otolaryngology: In one of the select specialized hospitals for medical/surgical care of the ears, nose, throat and related structures of the head and neck, NYEE medical staff see a great number of routine pediatric problems involving infections of the ears, tonsils and sinuses, in addition to complex and rare conditions such as profound hearing loss, cleft palate, neck masses, vascular anomalies and hemangiomas, and airway disorders.

Pediatric Allergy and Immunology: The NYEE Pediatric Allergy and Immunology team are experts in caring for children of all ages with allergic disease or other disorders of the immune system, including: hay fever, allergies to medications, hives, eczema, and asthma. Utilizing comprehensive, state-of-the-art evaluation techniques, and the latest therapeutics, our specialists treat infants, children, and teens while encouraging the active involvement of parents, guardians, and pediatricians in the treatment care plan.

The hospital also provides superb services in pediatric audiology, speech and language pathology, sleep disorders center, and a pediatric accredited radiology facility.

NYEE’s Ear Institute is one of the premiere facilities for diagnostic and therapeutic services for children, teens and adults suffering from hearing loss and congenital defects and conditions related to the ear. The Institute is a pioneer in cochlear implants, performing more than 100 implants a year, making it one of the nation’s leading providers for cochlear implants. The Ear Institute is distinguished from other hearing centers by its Educator Liaison and Auditory Hearing Habilitation Programs dedicated to assisting children with cochlear implants and/or hearing aids to succeed in school.
