A message from the Chairman

Edward Shin, MD

Welcome to the web pages of New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai's Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.  Whether you are a patient, family member, physician or student, we hope you will find information you are seeking about our Department’s services, research or educational program.

The Department proudly carries on a tradition nearly two centuries old of providing the highest quality and most innovative care available for the ear-nose-throat and head & neck.

Modern Otolaryngology evolved from its beginnings at New York Eye and Ear from simply treating diseases of the ear into a dynamic regional surgical specialty encompassing the diagnosis and treatment of all diseases and disorders from the skull base to the neck.

To enhance the quality of clinical skills, many members of the Department engage in basic and clinical research in such disorders as cancer of the head and neck, non-genetic and genetic hearing loss and restoration of hearing, cochlear implantation, nerve regeneration, and movement disorders.  They also teach future generations of Otolaryngologists in our highly regarded, highly competitive resident education program.

Thank you for visiting
