Highlights: NYEE Organizes 1st Comprehensive Glaucoma Surgery Course for Ophthal

NEW YORK, NY (July 2012) -- New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and The Jorge N. Buxton, MD Microsurgical Education Foundation will hold the 1st Comprehensive Glaucoma Surgery Course for Ophthalmology Residents on Saturday, July 21. A new flagship project of the Department of Ophthalmology, it is offered free of charge as a service to the medical community for eye residency programs throughout New York City.

Christopher Teng, MD, is course director and will be joined by distinguished faculty including Jeffrey Liebmann, MD, President of the American Glaucoma Society and Director of Glaucoma Services at NYU Langone Medical Center; George A. Cioffi, MD, Edward S. Harkness Professor and Chairman of Columbia University, and Paul A. Sidoti, MD, NYEE Residency Program Director.

Lecture topics include fornix-based and limbus-based trabeculectomy; Ahmed glaucoma valve and tube mplants; ExPress glaucoma filtration device; management of failed bleb and glaucoma complications, glaucoma surgery before, during and after cataract surgery; and new surgeries.

The surgical wetlab will teach trabeculectomy and implantation of the Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation and ExPress glaucoma filtration device.
