Alfonso Ponce, MD, is a graduate of the prestigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary’s Ophthalmology Residency program and completed a Fellowship in Medical Surgical Retina.
Dr. Ponce is a member of the NYEE Ophthalmology Faculty Practice, where he focuses on treatment and diagnosis of diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments. He utilizes the latest retinal imaging techniques which can provide earlier and more accurate diagnosis of eye disease to prevent and reverse vision loss. He also enjoys and is actively teaching new generations of residents and retinal fellows.
Currently he is involved in research to improve the imaging of the retina to visualize diseases before they produce loss of vision and the use of nutritional support for a better eye health. Also he is part of the national network to study the impact of diabetes in the eye and better ways for treatment.
