NYEEI Neighborhood Improvement Earns International Recognition
The Project for Public Spaces (PPS) has honored Union Square with an 8th-placed ranking in their list of "Best Squares and Plazas." Union Square is just three blocks from The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and is a major hub of several subway lines that serve the hospital.
In the September 2004 issue of the newsletter Making Places, PPS groups our revitalized park and greenmarket among such notables as the Piazza Del Campo in Sienna (#1), Piazza San Marco in Venice (#2) and the Hotel de Ville in Paris (#5). Union Square Park was even ranked ahead of Rockefeller Plaza (#11)!
The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary was a founding member of the Union Square Partnership (formerly 14th St. Local Development Corp/ Business Improvement District) which made possible the rebirth of Union Square as a safe, attractive destination for employees, patients, and families.
Parks, squares and plazas play an important part in the life of any city, and you can read more about them and other beautiful destinations around the world on
