Mayor Rudolph Giuliani received the Edward Delafield Leadership Award for his courage, compassion, sensitivity and assuring leadership as Mayor of the City of New York, at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary's "The Spirit of the City Gala."
The festive event, held Wednesday, December 5, 2001, at The Pierre in New York City, benefited a new state-of-the-art Microsurgical Education Center, a training and teaching facility at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary that will offer surgeons the opportunity to practice and refine complex microsurgical techniques. 325 persons were in attendance at the black tie event that generated $268,000 in proceeds.

Guests were treated to superb gourmet cuisine by candlelight and danced to the music of the Hank Lane Orchestra.
