Residency Interview DatesNotice to Applicants

Applicants can start registering and filling out applications through the following websites, but cannot submit applications into the program until September 1st, 2008. Formal application must be made through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

Potential applicants are welcome to spend their senior elective rotation at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai. However, applicants are discouraged from spending all of their elective rotations at various otolaryngology programs as a means of increasing the likelihood of successfully matching. Historically, such efforts have been marginally successful (Mattox, D.E., Cost-Effectiveness of Otolaryngology Externships for Residency Applicants, Arch Otolaryngol, Jan 1984, vol 110, pg 2).

Applications are reviewed by a subcommittee of the Otolaryngology faculty and approximately 12% of the applicants are invited for interviews. Interviews are traditionally held in November, last one day and frequently include a resident evening party for the applicants. Invitations are based on performance in medical school, Part I (and II, if available) of the USMLE scores, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular activities, including participation in research. Applicants are welcome to visit the Eye and Ear, and its three Affiliated Hospital at their own discretion. Visits can be arranged through contacting Dr. George Alexiades or the Residency secretary.
