Director
of Resident Training
Paul Sidoti, M.D.
The Department of Ophthalmology at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary has a strong commitment to Residency training, striving to meet the ever-evolving educational needs of the next generation of ophthalmologists.
Devotion to excellence in patient care remains the cornerstone of the program as it grapples with a changing healthcare environment that demands improved efficiency, the best-trained physicians, the latest technology, and the lowest
price tag. Refinement of the structure of the Comprehensive Ophthalmology service and its Subspecialty services has enhanced the educational experience of our residents, improved the delivery of superior care to our patients, and nurtured a more creative environment which fosters research. An increasing emphasis on accountability has driven our efforts to mold the clinical organization to fit the needs of our patients, while maintaining the educational structure of the standard medical teaching model. As practice guidelines have become standardized by maturing technologies, we have continued to add additional facets to the program in the form of new surgical courses and forums, use of new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, and expanded use of computers for teaching and clinical analysis.
The accomplishment of these advances has come in great part from the dedicated efforts and support of the clinical teaching faculty under the direction of the Chiefs of Service lead by the Department Chair. In addition, the newly created faculty position of Medical Director of Outpatient Clinics has helped to assist the Director of Residency Training in the coordination and implementation of these changes.
