About Me

Dr. Chapas received her B.A. in Biochemistry 1996 from the University of Pennsylvania and her M.D. degree cum laude from Harvard Medical School in 2001.  She completed a one-year medical internship at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA prior to entering the Boston Medical Center’s dermatology residency program in 2002, which she successfully completed in 2005.  During the following year Dr. Chapas was a Mohs Surgery/Procedural Dermatology Fellow at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York under Dr. Roy Geronemus.  The recipient of many awards, this bright and clinically experienced dermatologist earned a fellowship from the American Cancer Society in the summer of 2007 to investigate immunotherapy for color carcinoma, graduating magna cum laude with distinctive honors in Biochemistry.  In 2010 Dr. Chapas was named Surgery Attending of the Year in the Department of Dermatology at NYU and was awarded the American Academy of Dermatology’s Shade Structure Award for the Children’s Aid Society to name but a few of her honors.  She was Board certified in 2005 and is licensed to practice medicine in New York.

Dr. Chapas’ research has been published in multiple peer-reviewed medical journals and textbooks.  She has authored chapters in leading textbooks in dermatology and dermatological surgery and is a frequent presenter at national and international meetings.   She is also a regular reviewer for Lasers in Surgery and Medicine and  Dermatologic Surgery.

Her in-depth experience in the use of lasers and Mohs micrographic surgery in the treatment of cutaneous cancers and cosmetic procedures will be a great asset to the education and training of our residents and fellows, as well as our medical students.  Dr. Chapas comes with prior experience in the training of medical residents in dermatologic surgery having supervised these trainees at NYU’s School of Medicine.  In addition, she has research experience which will prove invaluable

Dr. Chapas is a founding member of Content of Our Character, an organization to promote ethical leadership and co-authored a chapter entitled "Community Medicine" in Content of Our Character: Voices of Generation X, providing an excellent role model to students at every level regarding the importance of ethical issues in the practice of medicine.
