Electrocochleography test can be used to determine if the inner ear (cochlea) has an excessive amount of fluid pressure. Excessive fluid pressure in the cochlea can cause many symptoms such as hearing loss, a feeling of fullness, dizziness, and/or ringing in the ears.
The ECoG takes up to 30 minutes to complete. Patients do not need to respond in any way; they simply need to remain relatively still. The patient will have several electrodes placed on their head and ears. A small, soft insert with a microphone and an earphone will be placed into the ear canal.
