New York, NY (March 2013) -- Christopher Teng, MD, a glaucoma expert at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary (NYEE) will lecture, consult, teach and perform surgical demonstrations in Romania from March 15-24, 2013.
The trip is sponsored by the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), on behalf of Alina Neacsu, MD, and her colleagues. Dr. Neacsu was an ICO fellow at NYEE with the world-renowned glaucoma specialist Robert Ritch, MD, in 2012. Dr. Neascu is part of a unique international exchange program offered by the ICO, known as a "Sandwich Fellowship,” so named because it includes two periods of study in the USA at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and in between, an NYEE guest professor travels to the fellow’s homeland hospital to teach.
ICO fellowships are considered among the most prestigious international training awards in ophthalmology. There are approximately 60 ICO Fellowships around the world each year, and NYEE now trains one of the largest number of international eye fellows of any medical center.
