NEW YORK, NY (May 2010) -- The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary has been awarded a record number of International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) fellowships, which are considered among the most prestigious international training awards in ophthalmology.
Robert Ritch, MD, NYEE’s Chief of Glaucoma Services and Director of International Training, has been instrumental in arranging these fellowships. He says, “The goal is to help promising young ophthalmologists from developing nations acquire specialized diagnostic, medical and surgical techniques which will better preserve and restore vision to millions in their home countries.”
There are approximately 50 ICO Fellowships around the world each year, and NYEE now trains one of the largest number of international eye fellows of any medical center.
