New York, NY (July 2009) -- The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary Institute for Continuing Medical Education (ICME) has been awarded full re-accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) for a four-year period through July 31, 2013. The ACCME review process includes an extensive written self-study report and a site visit by ACCME surveyors.
The Infirmary has been offering education to medical professionals since its inception -- in fact, receiving an early grant from the New York Legislature in 1824 to permit doctors from every county in the State to witness surgery at the hospital. For more than 50 years, specialists from all over the world came here to study advanced techniques at the Infirmary's Institute for Ophthalmology in the Americas and Post-Graduate Institute. Today's ICME offers thousands of ophthalmologists from across the country a convenient method of acquiring continuing medical education credit through printed supplements in Ophthalmology Times and other professional journals, as well as live symposia, special lectures and grand rounds in Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology.
