NEW YORK, NY
December 18, 2009
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
You have heard me state how privileged I feel to serve The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary along with our exemplary medical staff. This is especially so today as I draw your attention to the story that appears on the front page of this morning’s New York Daily News entitled “Gift of Sight.”

This “Christmas miracle” story cites a case of Dr. C. Michael Samson. He, his fellow Dr. Vincente Diaz, and their surgical team recently restored the vision of a 36-year-old mother from Brooklyn who was blind due to uveitis. She was subsequently able to see her daughters as pictured in the paper.
This story is a wonderful way to end 2009, with a tribute to the incredible work performed here every day. It is also as a reminder of the critical need to expand and update our capabilities through our 2010 Surgical Suite Initiative, so that we can continue this miraculous work.
I wish you happy holidays and look forward to a great new year.
