Pain Management Services Open at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary

Scott Gottlieb, MDNew York, NY -- The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary will open a new Pain Management Service starting February 3 under the direction of Scott Gottlieb, MD, who is double board-certified in Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology. Dr. Gottlieb is in private practice in New York and New Jersey, and has provided pain management services in the Greater New York Metropolitan region for the past several years.

Pain management covers an array of conditions including: post-surgical pain, neck pain and headache, neuralgia, acute pain as a result of injury or illness, back problems, arthritis, cancer, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, shingles and muscular conditions, as well post-amputation pain.

A number of patients of NYEE’s Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology Departments may have concomitant conditions that would benefit from Pain Management. Now it is available to augment other specialized medical and surgical treatments for persons with persistent or chronic pain. The Service is also open to referrals from outside physicians as well as the 500-plus member Medical Staff of NYEE.

Dr. Gottlieb is graduate of SUNY Upstate Medical University (Syracuse), completed an anesthesiology residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and was an interventional pain fellow at the University of California Los Angeles.

His particular emphasis is in interventional pain management and minimally invasive procedures:  cryoanalgesia, fluoroscopic-guided joint injection, implantable drug delivery, intradiscal electrothermal therapy, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulators and vertebroplasty.  He participates in most major insurance plans at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, including Medicare.

Pain Management Services will initially be available three days a week. Dr. Gottlieb will see patients in the 5th Floor Assessment Rooms, North Building, every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 -7:00 PM, and extended hours will become available as necessary.  Procedures will be done on Fridays in the 4th Floor OR.

Appointment scheduling and referrals can be made by calling Dr. Gottlieb at 646.943.7900 or contacting him by email at sgottlieb@nyee.edu.
