Dermatology is Now Available at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary

New York, NY (December 2008) -- The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary will begin operations of a new Dermatology service on January 6, 2009. It will be directed by Lori A. Brightman, MD, a prominent, board-certified dermatologist who for the past two years is practicing at the nationally recognized Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York.

Dermatology is a natural complement to the hospital’s existing, world-renowned strengths in Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. 

Dr. Brightman is a specialist in Mohs micrographic surgery for basal cell, squamous cell and other non-melanoma skin cancers, as well as in general dermatologic surgery, cosmetic dermatology and laser surgery.

She received her medical degree in 2001 from Boston University Medical School, where she continued as a fellow in skin oncology for two years. She completed her residency in dermatology at Boston University/Tufts New England Medical Center’s combined program, and was a fellow in Mohs micrographic surgery, laser surgery, dermatologic surgery and cosmetic dermatology at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York.

Dr. Brightman lectures regularly to specialists across the country, and her work on advances in cutaneous oncology, laser surgery and cosmetic dermatology is published widely.  Her current research involves the use of laser, light and radiofrequency devices in the treatment of medical and cosmetic conditions.

Some of the procedures provided by Dr. Brightman, are:

  • Mohs micrographic surgery for the treatment of skin cancer
  • biopsies
  • excisions
  • non-melanoma skin cancer
  • melanoma
  • sebaceous hyperplasia
  • full skin examinations
  • botox injections (for fine lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, neck laxity)
  • fillers (such as Restylane, Juvederm, Evolence, Radiesse, Sculptra, among others)
  • Fraxel Re:pair (for fine lines, moderate wrinkles, mild laxity, sun damage, mottled pigmentation, scars, enlarged pores, rejuvenation)
  • treatment of scars vascular lesions (port wine stains, hemangiomas, broken blood vessels, rosacea, pigmented lesion removal)
  • melasma
  • skin laxity
  • chemical peels

The Dermatology service will be located on the 9th floor of the North Building, with hours every Tuesday, 8 AM. to 4 PM, beginning January 6, 2009.
