"Thanks for Giving" Ball raises more than $600,000 for The New York Eye and Infirmary

Pierre BallroomNew York, NY (November 2007) -- On November 28, more than 400 friends and supporters joined at The Pierre for The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary’s 2007 "Thanks for Giving Ball." Through the collective efforts of NYEE Trustees Edward Nowak, Dinner Chair; Hope Preminger, Invitation Chair; and Michael Baldock, Journal Chair, the Ball was the most successful ever, raising more than $600,000 to benefit patient care services.

NYEE’s distinguished trustee Susan Liebowitz received the Margaret Loeb Kempner Humanitarian Award and esteemed physician Bernard Kabakow, MD, FACP was honored with the John Kearney Rodgers Physician of the Year Award. Chairman of the Board Peter Frelinghuysen noted they truly deserve the highest accolades for their exceptional and long-term dedication to NYEE’s mission of providing patients in need with the miracles of sight and hearing and delivering state-of-the-art medical care in the disciplines of Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery, and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.

New President and CEO, D. McWilliams Kessler, made the keynote address, introducing the launch of NYEE’s campaign to build an endowment program. He cited Shelley and Steven Einhorn for their recent gift of $2 million to establish The Shelley and Steven Einhorn Distinguished Chair of Ophthalmology in honor of the work of Robert Ritch, MD, Director of Glaucoma Services.

Mr. Kessler also introduced the new communications campaign, "A Day in the Life of The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary," which portrays physicians, nurses and support staff interacting with patients in docudrama photographs taken by award-winning photo journalist John Shearer. Mr. Kessler noted that the compelling images capture the skill, commitment, caring, and compassion that every one of NYEE’s staff members bring to work every day.

The campaign was highlighted in the Ball Journal and new DVD, and will soon be seen on NYEE’s website, in new brochures, and in photographic displays throughout the hospital. A 2008 "Day in the Life" calendar was also mailed to NYEE patients.
