NYEE Holds Conference on Thyroid Cancer at U.N.

New York, NY (April 2007) -- The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, in cooperation with World Information Transfer, Inc., held a conference entitled, "Living with Radiation: Treatment of Aggressive Thyroid Cancer after the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident," on Friday, April 20 from 3 to 6 pm at the United Nations. It featured an international panel of experts, and Daniel I. Branovan, MD, Director of the Thyroid Center at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, served as course director.

More than 200,000 Russian and Eastern European immigrants are at increased risk for thyroid cancer due to the Chernobyl accident, which occurred 21 years ago. Elevation of thyroid cancer among this population is expected to rise dramatically in the next decade. "The conference offers a unique opportunity for American physicians and surgeons to learn of the latest clinical and scientific advances in the field of radiation-induced thyroid cancer," says Dr. Branovan.

Fore information, download the program brochure (PDF), or call or e-mail Martha Farruggio at (212) 979-4071 or mfarruggio@nyee.edu or Glenda Salamanca at (212) 979-4545 or gsalamanca@nyee.edu.

The conference will be webcast on this site at a later date.
