"We Listen So Kids Can Hear" Honors Co-Directors of The Beth Israel/New York Eye & Ear Cochlear Implant Center and Raises $1 Million to Benefit Children Who Are Hearing-Impaired

New York, NY (November 2006) – The Children’s Hearing Institute thanks 250 friends and supporters who joined October 29 at the Institute’s 23rd Annual Benefit Gala "We Listen So Kids Can Hear. This festive evening of dining and music at Jazz at Lincoln Center raised more than $1,000,000 to fund education and research programs at The Beth Israel/New York Eye & Ear Cochlear Implant Center. Currently located at two sites, this program will be consolidated at the new Ear Institute to be opened in 2007 by The New York Eye & Ear Infirmary.

The event honored Simon C. Parisier, MD; Ronald A. Hoffman, MD; and Jane R. Madell, PhD with the Institute’s 2006 Jule Styne Humanitarian Award. "These cochlear implant center co-directors truly deserve our highest accolades for their exceptional and unsurpassed dedication to helping children who are hearing-impaired," said Institute Chairman of the Board Leonard Boxer.

The Humanitarian Award presentation was made by the Gala’s Honorary Chair Lyor Cohen, who is Chairman and CEO of Warner Music Group’s U.S. Recorded Music, and the father of a four-year old who was born profoundly deaf. In receiving the award, the honorees acknowledged the extraordinary expertise and dedication of the Beth Israel/New York Eye & Ear staff, and their collective dream "to eradicate the deficits caused by hearing loss and level the playing field for all affected children."

Supporters contributed many wonderful ads for the event’s Benefit Gala Journal, including tributes from Dr. Parisier’s pediatric patients.
