New York, NY (December 2004) -- The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary Holiday Ball was held on Tuesday, December 1, 2004, at the Pierre Hotel. More than 500 people attended the gala, which raised funds to benefit Children's Services at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.

Thomas O. Muldoon, MD, chief of retina services since 1997 and member of the medical staff for 40 years, received the John Kearney Rodgers Physician of the Year Award. Dr. Muldoon spearheaded creation of a new, state-of-the-art Retina Center, already accommodating 20,000 patient visits a year with unique clinical and imaging capabilities. The award is named in honor of one of the The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary's founding physicians.

John S. Chen, Chairman of Sybase, Inc., received the William Few Corporate Award. This award is named for the The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary's first president, a prominent patriot among the signers of the US Constitution. 

Mr. Chen is known globally as an IT industry leader, corporate turnaround specialist and well-informed voice on matters of international trade and US-China relations.

Scott Clark of WABC-TV News 7 was master of ceremonies for the evening. Mr. Clark, well-known area sportscaster, devotes a considerable amount of time to local charitable organizations.

Ty Votaw, president of the Ladies Professional Golf Association, gave a tribute to John Chen, chairman of Sybase Inc., in the program. The Sybase Classic LPGA tournament, of which Mr. Chen is an integral part, also helps benefit The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.

With more than 500 assembled in the elegant Pierre, this was The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary's largest gala in the last decade.

A silent auction of generously donated luxury items contributed to the evening's proceeds.
