Dr. J. Robert Rosenthal, Dr. Thomas Muldoon, Raymond MinicusNYEE Physician Helps Author New Policy for Surgical Safety

New York, NY (December 2003) -- J. Robert Rosenthal, M.D., ophthalmologist and medical director of The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, served as a representative of NYEE and the American Association of Eye & Ear Hospitals to the JCAHO Summit on Wrong Site Surgery and was part of the construction of JCAHO's new universal protocol to prevent wrong site, wrong procedure, wrong person surgery.

JCAHO, the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, formally announced the policy at a recent press conference in Chicago.

Dr. Rosenthal also gave a talk on the subject at the annual AAEEH meeting. The AAEEH is comprised of the premier institutions for highly specialized ophthalmology and otolaryngology services not generally available in acute care hospitals.
