

The New York Eye
and Ear Infirmary Holiday Ball was held
on Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at The Pierre. The event raised more than
$300,000, which will benefit children's services.
Peter Frelinghuysen, chairman of The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary's board and a distinguished New Yorker, received The Margaret Loeb Kempner Humanitarian Award for his "visionary leadership, compassion and generosity of spirit."
The 2003 Physician of the Year Award for excellence in medicine was given to three senior surgeon directors from the Department of Otolaryngology/ Head & Neck Surgery: Paul L. Chodosh M.D., Young Bin Choo, M.D., and Felix DePinies, M.D..
Susan Liebowitz, of New York City, was Journal Chairman. Physician Co-chairs are Steven Schaefer, M.D., chairman of Otolaryngology, and Joseph Walsh, M.D., chairman of Ophthalmology. WABC TV's Scott Clark served as the master of ceremonies.
The reception began at 6:30 PM, gourmet dinner followed by dancing to the music of the Hank Lane Orchestra, and a Celebrity Silent Auction.

Scott Clark
of WABC-Channel 7 served as master of ceremonies for the evening's program.
(The Disney Company, which owns ABC, has an active philanthropy division that
supports charitable events such as The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary Gala. Mr. Clark also donates
a considerable amount of time and energy to helping health care and other
organizations.)

Operatic

Catherine Thorpe added a colorful note with the National Anthem.

Ed Nowak.

Surgery, opened the Physician of the Year Awards and introduced
Dr. Chodosh.

Now
retired as chief of Head & Neck surgery, Dr. Chodosh devotes
extensive time to resident education.

Bellucci, MD, gave a moving and personal tribute to his longtime colleague
and friend,
Dr. Choo.
