Goals for the nursing department include Magnet re-designation; competent nursing care based on best practices; quality monitoring and achievement of outcomes; and, active participation in research investigations and evidence-based practice projects. These goals align with activities facilitated by the Director of Magnet, Education, Quality, and Research.
The Director mentors and assists staff at all levels in activities that drive nursing excellence. These activities focus on empowerment of nurses, particularly direct care nurses; utilization of knowledge and generation of new knowledge; transformational leadership; exemplary professional practice; and, quality outcomes. The synergistic nature of these activities supports the comprehensive nature of this Director position.
Nurses at NYEE are actively involved in quality improvement efforts using benchmarks to set standards and sharing data through the Nursing Database for Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI). Advanced education and national professional certification is promoted and supported throughout the organization. Nurses participate in a focused nursing orientation upon employment at NYEE and are guided by preceptors in unit orientation and competencies. Ongoing continuing education is provided through a variety of venues including webinars and web-based learning.
