In 2003, The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary opened its new Bendheim Family Retina Center, providing state-of-the-art technology and research facilities, expanded patient care and enhanced professional education.

Utilizing cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, physicians in The Bendheim Family Retina Center are able to enhance care for both the growing elderly population and the increasing number of young people who are experiencing severe retinal problems arising from diabetes and other systemic disorders.

All examination rooms within The Bendheim Family Retina Center are outfitted with 17-inch flat-screen monitors, digitally connected to physician offices and other examination rooms. This feature allows the physicians to view images for any case anywhere in the Center.

However, the superb clinical work requires financial support so that critical progress in the prevention and treatment of these insidious diseases can be made. In addition to general donations, commemorative naming opportunities are available.

The Jorge N. Buxton Microsurgical Education Center:
Modernized Lab to Expand Training of Future Surgeons

The Jorge N. Buxton Microsurgical Education Center

Construction of the new Jorge N. Buxton Microsurgical Education Center is now complete! The Center officially opened in September 2004 with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The Education Center is a training and teaching facility uniquely equipped to offer surgeons the opportunity to practice and refine complex microsurgical techniques.

The new center replaces the dated, smaller Temporal Bone Laboratory and is designed to accommodate instruction in otolaryngology and ophthalmology, as well as plastic and reconstructive surgery, with the goal of expanding the training of future surgeons.

The Center will also enhance patient care by providing more user-friendly, state-of-the-art educational facilities for The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary's 500 attending physician specialists. The irreplaceable hands-on skills a surgeon must perfect prior to performing delicate procedures within eye and ear structures are learned in such settings as the Jorge N. Buxton Microsurgical Education Center. Please consider a generous gift today.
