The New York Glaucoma Research Institute at NYEE is internationally known as the forefront of research into the underlying causes of glaucoma, led by Drs. Robert Ritch, Jeffrey Liebmann, Celso Tello, Christopher Teng, Gustavo DeMoraes and Sung Chul Park. Significant strides have been made in the development of new treatment modalities for glaucoma, understanding the anatomic abnormalities in glaucoma through new ocular imaging devices, tissue culture and cell biology studies, and nationwide clinical trials sponsored.
The Glaucoma Research Division, under the direction of Paul A. Sidoti, MD, is at the forefront of important research on how to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) and treat glaucoma. The current research investigations look at the potential advantages of new medical, surgical therapy and procedure that have a potential to enhanced efficacy, reduce long- and short-term complications, and significant reduction of overall costs to patients and health care community.
