Practice and Professional Interests

JOSEPH BENEVENTO, MD, is a Board-Certified ophthalmologist specializing in the medical and surgical management of diseases affecting the retina and vitreous. His clinical interests include age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, retinal vascular disease, ocular trauma, and other disorders of the retina.

Dr. Benevento utilizes the state-of-the-art diagnostic testing of NYEE’s Advanced Retinal Imaging Center such as ocular coherence tomography, scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (OCT/SLO), fluorescein angiography, and ultrasonography.  He performs the full range of retinal procedures in office and hospital settings including scleral buckle, small incision sutureless vitrectomy, laser treatments and intraocular injections.

A graduate of Yale University and New York Medical College, Dr. Benevento completed his residency in Ophthalmology at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the University of Chicago. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international meetings, and he has participated in numerous clinical trials.
