May 2002 -- From July 22-28, one of the country's biggest women's golf tournaments, -- the Sybase Big Apple Classic Presented by GOLF Magazine, -- will be held at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle. The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary has been named Official Hospital for the LPGA tournament, with proceeds from NYEEI’s own spectator and Pro-Am ticket sales to benefit The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
"The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary is a tremendous addition to the Sybase
Big Apple Classic. Having this world-class specialty hospital associated with our tournament speaks volumes about the quality of not only the event, but our fans, players and venue as well. In addition, The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary will be providing emergency medical services at the event and they’ll even be offering free vision and ENT exams for spectators," said Bob Schwartz, Tournament Chairman.
NBC will televise the third and fourth rounds live from
1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
on Saturday, July 27 and
4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
on Sunday,
July 28. The golfers will be
competing for a purse of $950,000 with the winner taking home $142,500 in
Official LPGA Tour prize money.
