We invite you to get involved.
The goal of the Alumni Association of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary is to reconnect alumni as a professional community, create a national referral network, support residency training initiatives and provide updates about clinical, research and educational programs at the Infirmary. The Alumni Executive Committee, composed of three alumni volunteers, oversees the management of the former resident and fellow alumni online membership database, the annual membership drive, alumni communications, planning of both the annual alumni AAO cocktail reception and awards dinner held each Spring in New York City.
At the business meeting held prior to the Annual Spring Awards Dinner on May 11th, several alumni re-proposed an amendment to the Association bi-laws effectively making all non-resident, non-fellow alumni, NYEEI professional staff who have served 5 years or more, eligible for membership. They would become full, voting members with all rights and privileges therein. It was explicitly understood that the Alumni Association would retain its present name and remain essentially a non-political, social, educational and fundraising professional community.
This is an extremely important proposal with the potential of changing the essential nature and structure of the Alumni Association. Therefore, we are placing this proposal on a ballot to be voted on by all current Alumni Association members (Dues paid 2007-2008). Please review both Drs. Clyde Locke and Richard DeLuca’s letters which support this merger. As President I have elected to remain neutral on this issue. I urge you to seriously consider the ramifications of this proposal. Please return your election ballot along with your membership dues no later than November 1, 2007.
The Alumni Association’s Annual AAO Cocktail Reception will take place on Sunday, November 11, 2007 from 6:00 to 9:00pm at the Waterbury Condominiums located at 225 Girod Street in New Orleans, walking distance from the convention center. This lovely, private home promises to be a perfect and festive setting for our event. Map and directions, as well as transportation information are listed in the enclosed announcement and on the Alumni’s website: www.nyee.edu/alumni.html (Click “Upcoming Events”).
We look forward to seeing you in the Big Easy!
If you need further information or have a question, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Richard DeLuca, Dr. John Aljian or me. Please share your ideas. Together we will accomplish a great deal for the Association and the Infirmary
