Jose de la Cruz, MD (Ophthalmology, 2005), was featured in an article in the Chicago Sun Times of February 11, 2007. Entitled "I Was Trying Not to Cry," it described the dramatic result of an artificial cornea implant, which restored vision to a man who had been blind for many years due to Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Mel "Yogi" Bert (Ophthalmology, 1973) was recently appointed the
first Distinguished AOA Professor at SUNY Upstate. He is presently Clinical Professor of of Ophthalmology at University of California, San Francisco.
