The Advanced Retinal Imaging Laboratory was established in 1996 through the generous support of the Ophthalmology Chairman’s Research Fund. Its goal has been to explore new technologies for imaging the human retina in order to enhance our understanding of the anatomy, physiology and visual function for the benefit of our patients, as well as our general understanding.

The establishment of a new Retina Center, which opened in March 2003, presented an opportunity to showcase the state-of-the-art retinal imaging devices of the Advanced Retinal Imaging Laboratory. Aside from the instruments that have made it to the mainstream diagnostic armamentarium of the Retina Center, the Advanced Retinal Imaging Laboratory continues to serve as a testing ground for the development of newer and better imaging devices.

The Advanced Retinal Imaging Laboratory at the Retina Center are staffed by Drs. Julian and Patricia Garcia, who joined the Advanced Retinal Imaging Laboratory in the year 2000. They work together with other competent and dedicated personnel under the direct supervision of Dr. Richard Rosen, a retina specialist dedicated to the advancement of retinal imaging.
