Highlights: Senior Residents from Around New York City Learn Fine Points of Cataract Surgery From Experts at NYEE

NEW YORK, NY (January 2012) -- 35 ophthalmology residents from numerous programs throughout the New York metropolitan area availed themselves of an intense day of expert insight and mentoring on the finer points of cataract surgery. The course, Advanced Phacoemulsification for 3rd Year Residents, was held by the Jorge N. Buxton Microsurgical Education Foundation and The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, was provided free as a service to the medical community and supported in part by an educational grant from Abbott Medical Optics.

NYEE is the area's highest volume provider of cataract surgery, with a faculty uniquely qualified to describe rare and complicated aspects of cataract surgery such as uveitis, small pupils, glaucoma and cataracts, intra-operative floppy iris syndrome, nuclear fallout rescues; use of advanced instruments and techniques, including iris hooks, CTR's and Malyugen rings. There was a special presentation by the guest speaker on maximizing surgical results with multifocal lenses as well as his experience with intra-operative wavefront technology.

This course was one in a series of annual, on-going ophthalmology, ENT and plastic surgery courses, wet labs and symposia sponsored by The Jorge N. Buxton Microsurgical Education Foundation and The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. For information on future courses, please contact the NYEE Institute for Continuing Medical Education at 212-614-8269 or visit our website at www.nyee.edu/cme-activities.html.
