For the past year, 43-year-old Sandra Rosa lived in complete darkness. It’s been an emotional time for the Brooklyn native. Last summer, diabetes robbed Rosa of her right leg, and two weeks later, she lost her vision. Rosa had retinal detachment and severe cataracts in both eyes, so she sought treatment from Gennady Landa, MD, an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Five surgeries later, she was in the dark reading letters in an eye exam.
